to make this place even more beautiful...
We're situated alongside the Truckee River, west of Reno, at a great
location. Our property joins the County-maintained Mayberry Park. We
use the old cable-spool you can see at the center of the picture as
a picnic table. The hills beyond the river are the first foothills of
the Sierra Nevada. This picture was taken in the fall, when the trees
were just beginning to show their colors.
Sometimes we tie a rope to trees on opposite sides of the river and
"surf the Truckee" by holding onto the rope while the fast-moving
mountain stream provides lift for the surfboard.
The black footbridge you see in the larger picture, above, is at the
same location as the old "Mayberry Bridge" which was once an important
way to get to Reno from the west.
Our vision is to develop this site for recreation opportunities. The
combination of Interpretive Gardens and Mayberry Park provides a unique
opportunity. Ideas that have been discussed include a river cafe,
professional offices with river-view terraces, a turf badminton court
and summer league, a nature study area, and others.
